Spending quality time with my dog is one of my favorite things to do.

When you’re a dog mom, any excuse is a good excuse to celebrate. And spending time with your dog is not only healthy for you, but also for them!

In the spirit of fun, I came up with a list of 10 ways to spend quality time with your dog on any special occasion, like Dog Mom’s Day! Show your pup some [extra] love—on top of the usual cuddles and puppy kisses—and enjoy one (or all!) of these dog-friendly activities!

1. Get Dog Mom + Dog Matching Outfits

BILLIEBONE has you covered with their adorable matching accessories. This pink and red bandana is reversible, covered in a fun, heart-filled pattern on one side, and a white Gingham pattern on the other. It snaps closed with a gorgeous red button. With matching scrunchies in each pattern, you and your fur-baby can look super cute together!

You can save 10% on any BILLIEBONE purchase with promo code HENRY. Try their newest organic dog treat flavour: beets & camelina!

2. Have Brunch With Your Buddy

The best way to spend quality time with your dog: share a meal with them. Call me basic, but brunch is my favorite meal. Fluffy waffles topped with chocolate and strawberries…yum!

Henry’s favorite meal? Any meal LOL.

I absolutely looooove the Cù Bakery baking kits! (this isn’t sponsored, I’ve used their kits before, you can read all about it here) They make baking healthy treats for your dog super easy! To make this brunch idea come to life, they have a pancake baking kit. Pancakes for dogs, I mean, cutest thing ever!

These baking kits are sold through Big Country Raw, and they have several different kits to choose from! You can find the pancakes kit here.

For me, the way to my heart, is through my stomach, so naturally, nothing says “I love you more” than a heart-shaped waffle-press. Don’t forget the chocolate and strawberries!

Pancakes + waffles = the pawfect brunch!

3. Spend Quality Time Together In Front Of Your Fave Movie

Henry actually really enjoys watching TV, and I enjoy watching him react to what he sees.

There’s nothing we love more after a hard day’s work [from home] than cozying up in front of a movie. Grab your best blanket and snuggle up with your pup!

4. Start A Gratitude Journal

Life moves so fast, and sometimes we need to take a moment to acknowledge all the things we’re grateful for…like our dogs!

Write down all the things you love about your dog in your favorite journal. This moment of gratitude will not only remind you how much you love your fur-baby, but it will also make a sentimental souvenir to look back on.

5. Doggy Spa Day

If your dog enjoys a bath, make it extra special by putting on some soothing music, lighting your favorite candles and giving them some extra-long bath time scrubbies! Delicious smelling shampoo (like this new Fur Bebe pet shampoo from OUAI) and a plush bathrobe are musts for the perfect spa day.

And why not finish it off with a nice dog massage! (yes, it’s a thing)

6. DIY Photoshoot With Your Dog

Not only will you spend quality time with your dog, but you’ll also create memories you can look back on!

I love arts and crafts: give me all the glitter, glue guns and markers! (Just make sure you keep those away from your pooch) Get crafty and make a fun background for a photoshoot. Here is some inspiration from the Pretty Fluffy blog to get you started!

Throw on your favorite dog mom sweater, set your camera’s timer and say I woof you!

7. Spend Time Together On A New Adventure!

Change up your routine and take a stroll somewhere new! Spend quality time with your dog getting lost somewhere new: a new dog park, a sunny beach or a nature hike. Find a great adventure your pup will love.

Or, spoil your dog and carry them around while you pick up a coffee from your favorite local coffee shop! Need a carrier? Let me suggest my ultimate fave: the Maxbone City Carrier!

8. Teach Your Dog To Give You A Hug

Henry can high-five! It’s a start, but wouldn’t it be so cool if your dog could hug you on command?!

One of the best ways to spend quality time together and strengthen your bond is with training. Whether it’s basic training or learning a new trick, your dog will love spending time with you this way.

I looked this up, and there are a few different methods to train your dog to hug on command. You’ll need some patience though, it might take awhile. Click here for the training.

You might want to stock up on some training treats to make this work, here’s what we use.

9. Give Them A Box Full Of Love

Spoil your pup with a box full of toys and treats! Playing with your pup is a great way to show them you love them and to strengthen your bond. In fact, we just got our first I Love My Dog Box filled with nutritious treats and high quality dog toys.

This all-new Canadian small biz just launched this week! I’m even more excited about it because they’re from my city, Montreal. As a health-conscious brand, they carefully curate every treat and toy that goes into the box, to make sure our pups get the very best.

10. Make Room For More Love

Ok this one may be less for your dog, and more for you, but I mean, happy dog mom, happy dog, right?

Anyone else obsessed with The Home Edit?  I just love when everything is organized. I think that’s why I love planners so much. Especially with a dog, things can get so messy, so quickly.

Personally, my new favorite activity has become deep cleaning my rugs and my couch with my new Bissell Spot Clean Pro. I got it for Christmas, and it’s the best gift ever. Adulting, am I right?

Declutter, reorganize, clean and appreciate the space around you that you call home, whatever this looks like for you. Get rid of old dog toys, wash blankets and dog bed cover, clean and organize your dog’s accessories, put dog treats in cute canisters—and then do the same thing with your own space. Because we’re spending so much time at home, it’s important (for both you and your dog) to feel good and love it!

I have a whole section on my Amazon shop dedicated to home things! You can shop it here.

The list of ways we can spend quality time with our dog is truly endless. Hope these ten little activities give you some ideas!

If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that we need to take a break sometimes, slow day, enjoy ourselves and appreciate the people and the pets in our lives! Share this post with someone who needs to hear that.
